Join the artists for an intimate hands-on workshop at the Vancouver Art Gallery that focuses on the company’s approach to storytelling and their incredible “live cinema” techniques created on overhead projectors.
The two-hour interactive workshop begins with an overview of how the company creates shows from story idea to full production. Participants then get on their feet at the overhead projectors and behind the screens to deconstruct and stage a short sequence from an existing Manual Cinema show in order to learn the puppetry techniques and cinematic language that the company has invented. Using their new expertise, participants will collaborate to devise short, narrative shows of their own to present to the larger group for discussion.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Beyond Words presentation of No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks, on February 24, 2019 at the Chan Centre. Tickets for each event sold separately.
