Pausing in places of intersection between the work of Gwendolyn Brooks and her own, Jillian examines the importance of telling one’s story. What did Brooks illuminate about the life of a black artist in America? What about community? What is the importance and power found in telling one’s own story, and what drew people, from different backgrounds and experiences, to flock to Brooks’ work? Gather for a moment of poetic contemplation, as we prepare to be swept away by the sharp wisdom and keen witness of No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks.
