In the Paiwan language, varhung means the “heart.” Yet it is also the expression of the internal exchange of emotions and feelings caused by various emotions such as joy, anger, sadness, and happiness. It stresses introverted and true affection and reflects the Paiwan people’s beautiful, elegant, and sincere emotions. The Paiwan people have no written words. Thus, they are used to expressing their internal and multi-layered emotions through dancing and singing. They can express every word and every sentence accurately with flawless artistry.
The Paiwan people can perceive classic poetic qualities. They can whisper words that feel heavy on the heart (varhung). Their words come with total devotion and unknown prophecies that are unforgettable.
The performers with heartfelt stories expose their secrets through songs and dances. Dancing out what is on their minds is as delightful as saying it out loud. The stories which had been hidden inside for a long time are all expressed and a state of healing is achieved.
