'At the heart of any economy of surplus is a communal release in material expenditure. Works by Aleesa Cohene, Derek Dunlop, and Deborah Edmeades are brought together through intuition – only later did the idea of an aesthetic "economy of the flesh" make itself felt. Of interest is the vitality of inanimate matter – how, through processes of artistic transformation, new affective forms come to resonate in us – an often difficult, unrepresentable singularity embeds itself in thought. Brought together, these works could even be said to point toward some manic concept of redemption – under the guise of a tainted sacrificial offering, the building of automata through melding old and new electromagnetic devices, and unlocking obscure affects through colour research...'
