The 26th International Military Band Concert will bring 75 musicians from six professional military bands located in British Columbia, Washington and California to the stage of the Chandos Pattison Auditorium on Victoria Day to celebrate our shared British Heritage and to salute the men and women who serve in our armed forces at home and around the world.
Since it began, the International Military Band Concert has presented audiences an entertaining and varied program of music to fit every taste. This year will be no exception as the musical selections will include marches written during Queen Victoria's reign, music of the Beatles and contemporary compositions for wind band.
Funds raised after expenses will assist groups that provide aid and services to members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
nternational Military Band Concert History
The first International Military Band Concert was held in Olympia, Washington in 1990 when army bands from the United Kingdom, United States and Canada joined to present a show that celebrated the strong ties between allies and demonstrate excellence.
For 20 years, the show was held in the Washington Center for the Performing Arts and it became one of the musical highlights in the annual calendar of events in the state capital.
In 2010, the concert began to change location depending on the host band. This year, Vancouver's Band of the Fifteenth Field Artillery Regiment is pleased to host the event and to bring it to Surrey.
