Come loud and proud - traditional clothing welcome!
Are you interested in African arts, heritage and culture?
Join us at the 5th annual African Descent Festival, bringing all people together for a free, outdoor celebration of the planet and the International Decade for People of African Descent.
African Descent Festival is organized and presented by the African Descent Society British Columbia (ADSBC), which is a arts and cultural heritage non-profit organization based in Vancouver Hogan's Alley. Our mission is to promote the arts, culture, and heritage of the people of African descent who reside in Vancouver BC since 19th century and rejuvenate Hogan's Alley with African Descent Cultural Centre after the City remove the Georgia Viaduct which destroyed our community late in 1970's. This is done through live music and cultural presentations in honour of the United Nations International Decade for African Descent (2015-2024), UNESCO General History of Africa, and in memory of Hogan's Alley and the vibrancy that existed in Hogan's community hub. We are proud of the long journey advocate for a Cultural Centre. The City recognized this project once they remove the Viaduct to allocate a space for people of African descent.
