Founded in 1992 by former members of St. Thomas’s Boys Choir in Leipzig, Amarcord has since become one of the world’s premier vocal ensembles and is a leading representative of Leipzig’s music scene in Germany and abroad, appearing at important music festivals and concert halls, including Berlin’s Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Dusseldorf’s Tonhalle, the Philharmonie in Cologne and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Amarcord’s hallmarks are unique tone, breathtaking homogeneity, musical authenticity and a good dose of charm and humor.
Franz Schubert is the father of the romantic ‘Lied’. His compositions not only for one voice and piano, but also for vocal ensembles are legion. For this intimate programme, Amarcord have grouped an irresistible choice of Schubert songs with gems from their hometown of Leipzig that was arguably the musical hot spot in nineteenth century Germany. In addition to works for unaccompanied male vocal ensemble by Schubert and Mendelssohn, you will have the opportunity to hear works by less well-known composers from 19th century Leipzig including Carl Reinecke, Heinrich August Marschner, and more.
“Delivered with virtuosity and alarming enthusiasm.” — The Sydney Morning Herald
