Tanabata! Japanese Book Sale & Movies

The garden will be filled with kids’ activities! Write your wishes on a tanzaku paper to share with the Tanabata constellations. There will also be used books for sale in the lobby, and a film screening in the special events hall. Enjoy a summer weekend with movies, books, and of course, the Tanabata festival!

Tanabata (Japanese: たなばた or 七夕, meaning "Evening of the seventh"), also known as the Star Festival, is a Japanese festival originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.

Let's celebrate the upcoming Tanabata Festival wearing a Yukata! A yukata is a casual summer kimono which is commonly worn at summer events and festivals! Bring in your Yukata set and get help to wear it onsite by the kimono professional, Satsuki-kai, or just come in already wearing it! Limited Yukata are available for rent onsite. (by donation)
浴衣を着て七夕祭りを楽しみませんか？自前の浴衣一式をお持ちいただくと、当地で有名な日舞グループの彩月会による着付けをしていただくことができます。浴衣がない方にはレンタルもあります。数に制限あり。(ドネーション制)

Welcome to the Tanabata Kids Zone at the Nikkei Centre! The Nikkei Garden will turn into a colourful carnival filled with family-friendly games and activities!

All Access Pass Wristband to Tanabata Kids Zone ($10 in advance and $12 day of). Attendees can purchase individual game tickets on the day of the event for $1 each. All Access Pass also includes watching one movie (Okko's Inn or Mirai)!
