Fugue Theatre invites you to: A Seak Peek of LES FILLES DU ROI by Julie McIsaac & Corey Payette
In the summer of 1665, young fille du roi Marie Jeanne Lespérance arrives at the French settlement of Ville-Marie, filled with hopes for a new life. She is one of the many 'daughters of the King', recruited by the French government to help increase the population of New France. Marie soon discovers that her dreams of love and adventure have implications beyond her personal journey. As a tool of France's colonial ambitions, she's thrust between the competing interests of the French, the nearby Mohawk settlement of Kahnawà:ke, and the British settlements further south. Over the course of four tumultuous seasons, French, Mohawk, Métis and English characters build a complex web of relationships that sets the stage for the Canada we know today.
