Oliver Jones:
At 81 years young, the masterful Canadian pianist Oliver Jones remains “one of the most consistently inventive and technically awesome mainstream jazz pianists on the planet” (All About Jazz).
A JUNO and Governor General’s Award-winning Officer of the Order of Canada, Jones is as decorated as he is beloved. A strong musical kinship with lifelong friend Oscar Peterson can be heard in his phenomenal swing and bebop shredding, while his Bach and Chopin influences find expression in the arching emotion of his restrained, tender ballads. Oliver Jones retires from touring in the fall of 2016 so don’t miss his top shelf trio— Eric Lagacé bass, and Jim Doxas drums.
Oliver Gannon Quartet:
Echoes of Wes Montgomery and Barney Kessel can be heard in the fluid, swinging style of Vancouver guitarist Oliver “Fingers” Gannon, while his primo band expertly distils classic 50’s and 60’s bop in the manner of the great Art Blakey. With Jodi Proznick bass, Miles Black piano, and Blaine Wikjord drums.
