Change Ringers are responsible for ringing cathedral bells. They vary the order in which the bells are struck, by slowing down one bell and speeding up another so that the two trade places in the sequence. This practice produces a pattern of rings that follow each other in a descending sequence.
This visit is part of George Rahi's residency at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre. Drawing inspiration from the historical role of bells in church towers, Rahi's month long residency looks at the functions and the potentials of public sounds, specifically the role of bells in history and contemporary urban life.
