So it's time for the first Climate Action Clothing Swap at the Massey Theatre! This event is being produced in partnership with New West community activator Rosa Rezansoff!
Date/Time: Nov 2 2019, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
New Westminster, Massey Theatre | Event calendar
When it comes to living the conscious life, buying new clothes isn’t exactly the kindest thing we can do for our planet. Every piece of new clothing (if not made sustainably) can be the product of countless chemicals, dyes, and the like, all of which can be harmful to the earth, air, groundwater – as well as the people making the clothing and even the people who try it on and then wear it. And buying all fair-trade, eco-friendly, and/or organic clothing, which is of course better for people and the environment, can be expensive.
It’s a simple and fun way to keep textile waste out of the landfill and embrace reduce, reuse and recycle fashionably! We're also featuring local artisans Bits & Keys' and Morgan's Pillows, as well as upcycled fashion by Ash and Grove, who will also be presenting a LIVE FASHION SHOW at 5:30 with accessories provided by Bits & Keys.
Never been to a clothing swap? Here are the details:
We invite you to bring your GOOD, LIGHTLY USED, CLEAN, clothing/shoes/jewellery to swap and share with others in your community. Please do not bring items that are stained, need repairs, or that you wouldn't give to your super fashionable best friend. We will have tables organized for type of items as well as sizes, you will then put your items where they fit and VOILA!
IF YOU HAVE CLOTHING TO SWAP BUT ARE UNABLE TO BRING IT TO THE SWAP PLEASE CONTACT US AS WE MAY BE ABLE TO PICK UP ITEMS PRIOR TO THE EVENT.
*Please note that as part of our mission to be inclusive, you are welcome to bring clothing that is labeled as "men's clothing", however the majority of people at the event identify as female-presenting." We will also be accepting kids clothing on the day but will not be sorting it to the same level.
Any items leftover will be donated to Dress for Success Vancouver and Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver. We will be posting a list of items they are in need of as well if you want to to donate more (toiletries, etc...)
We will attempt (as much as possible) to sort through and make sure all the clothing is in good condition but this factor is primarily up to the swappers bringing the items.
Swappers are welcome to bring their children.
