A two-time Grammy Award nominee, Rahim AlHaj fled Iraq in 2000 to come to the U.S. and used music to translate the suffering, joy, anxiety and determination he experienced as a political refugee. In 2015, AlHaj was awarded the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honour for traditional arts in the U.S.A. He has performed and recorded with masters ranging from genre-busting guitarist Bill Frisell to modern accordion innovator Guy Klucevsek to indy-rock pioneers REM. His trio lineup includes Iranian santour maestro Sourena Sefati and world percussion master Nicolas Baker.
