Arnold Schoenberg’s monumental Friede auf Erden (Peace on Earth) takes lush chromatic harmony to its limits while expressing a powerful message relevant to our time. Einojuhani Rautavaara’s entrancing Missa a cappella, Arvo Pärt’s meditative Da pacem Domine, and Gustav Mahler’s deeply moving Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen provide us with opportunities for further contemplation—and consolation. As we remember those who have served in times of war and peace, Vancouver Cantata Singers invite you to take part in this musical evening of reflection and share with us in our collective and individual desire for peace.
