First set: Ruby & Smith Vancouver’s First Lady and Duke of Uke

Fresh off a summer of Main Stage appearance at the Vancouver Folk Festival and opening for Dave Mason (Fleetwood Mac) and Steve Cropper (Booker T and the MGs) at The Vogue, performing tunes from their brand new album!

Second set: Ruby’s (45 piece) Ukulele Orchestra conducted by Eduardo Garcia and Patrick Metzger. In it’s fourth year RUO is a testament to the dedication of students of Ruby’s Ukes Ukulele School, to the Ukulele’s versatility and to beautiful music made simply. Be prepared to be amazed!

A small army of 50 ukulele players—a mix of newbies, sophomores, and vets from Daphne Roubini’s school Ruby’s Ukes—settled in on-stage and then quietly launched into an all-handson-deck reading of Led Zeppelin’s timeless “Stairway to Heaven”. Eight heavenly, epic minutes later, it was over, followed by rapturous applause from an awestruck crowd.

Hands up if you left the Cultch convinced that it was time to think about mastering the national instrument of Hawaii–especially if you were one of the many who started playing air ukulele right around the time the piper called you to join him.”
