A Curio Box - A Fully Integrated Experience of Music and Culinary Arts
Integrating the excellence of both Turning Point Ensemble and L’Abattoir provides an all-embracing experience of tasting extraordinary musicianship with exceptional wines and delicious appetizers, providing a sumptuous magical evening.
The event is two fold, on Sunday June 5th beginning with a concert at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts @ 5:00pm, followed by Tasting Notes at L’Abattoir @ 6:30 – 8:30pm – pairing incredible music with exceptional wine and canapés.
The concert will provide an up close setting for the audience seated around the ensemble as they experience the virtuosity and musicianship of cellist Ariel Barnes and TPE. Included is a performance of Hindemith's scintillating and inventive Kammermusik Nr. 3 for solo cello and ensemble and the world premiere of
Cello Concerto: Curio Box by TPE Artistic Director Owen Underhill. Underhill has written this work especially for Ariel Barnes and the Turning Point Ensemble as a gift honouring the ten-year anniversary.
Renowned L’Abattoir’s Wine Director Lisa Haley has carefully paired chosen wines and canapés that include:
The Hatch Screaming Frenzy Sauvignon Blanc with Beetroot and tellegio salad
Wachau Grüner Veltliner with Yellowtail tartare, grapefruit, coriander
Nichol 9 Mile - Pinot Noir & St. Laurent with Crispy pork croquette, fresh apple, mustard
Emeliana Novas with Lamb tenderloin, bell pepper condiment, mint
Enhancing this musical culinary experience, Alfredo Santa Ana, outstanding Canadian Mexican composer, has composed miniature works to accompany each wine based on the sommelier’s description.
Proceeds from our Tasting Notes Fundraiser support our exciting concerts and youth education programs.
