Each of Emmet's talents delve into every extremity of Dublin: its pockets, its homes, its alleyways, its nightclubs as well as everything seismic to happen nationwide in the past decade. They show us all truly not only how layered and diverse Ireland is, but its people and how vastly different they can be depending on where you grew up, or more so, what side of the Liffey you were from?
Using his thick but uniquely audible Northside-Dub vernacular, Emmet honours the people he encapsulates with his words. His integrity for Dublin is far removed from what he has to say about Dublin’s integrity for itself. Dissecting “our fair city” and feeding its highs and lows back to us through a variety of artistic mediums, touching on subjects like addiction and underprivileged communities via avenues like his own brother's fall and rise from heroin and other subdued stories of Irish woe and triumph, all vocalized from a torn but experienced and overly passionate heart.
On the upside, Emmet will damn sure make you laugh, but, he will also bring tears to your eyes. Rooms, venues, halls, theatres and fields will all embrace tearful moments of solidarity as words beam from this man's mouth and resonate deep, deep, inside anyone who will lend their ear. When Emmet takes off his ramped ruption resonates rhythms in your soul unifying everyone with this hyperbolic beat dressed as words.
Quick on the spot and a true Irish genius, someone who’s name will hopefully live on, hopefully because of a change he once spoke of, the problems we once bello’d through the streets of Dublin’s Unfair City, the heartbreaks we’ve all screamed off cliffs... Until then, Emmet Kirwan’s live shows are raw, honest and full of Irish-charm and quick wit, that’s known as the ‘Craic’.
Performing to an overly packed stage at Knockanstockan Festival this summer with a list of new material as well as taking to the stage with fellow Irishmen Talos, who have seen recent success in LA and now doing shows over in Canada and Europe, it looks like Emmet Kirwan’s spoken word is going to take off in 2020.
