For centuries, wetlands were poorly understood. They were often maligned by early settlers and perceived as wastelands. This perception led to the destruction and degradation of wetlands all around the world – especially in areas we like to live. But communities are now recognizing the many values associated with them.
Communities are not only preserving wetlands, but also constructing them to improve the health of their urban areas and take advantage of the many services they provide – from flood control to providing cleaner waterways.
Wetlands are homes to many of our wildlife species and benefit our communities and urban areas through a large list of services they provide to us for free. This presentation will take you on a journey of our understanding of these valuable ecosystems and how our society is taking measures to conserve them.
This event is for ages 14+.
