This fall, the Contemporary Art Gallery has partnered with the Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week (VIFW) Mentorship Program to create a collaborative exhibition exploring intersections of contemporary art and Indigenous fashion. Through workshops with guest artists Jeneen Frei Njootli and Edzi’u, emerging artists explored techniques of combining narrative with a number of media and materials including sound, fabric and installation. A Line of Purpose marks one moment in VIFW’s expansive community building, which realizes and celebrates cultural resurgence, Indigenous futurisms and collaboration through transformative designs and artworks. Behind the scenes, VIFW is a catalyst for statements of land, exchange and ally-ship.
