The New York Times recently called Chicago-based cellist/composer/educator Tomeka Reid “one of the great energies in jazz: a melodic improviser with a natural, flowing sense of song and an experimenter who can create heat and grit with the texture of sound.” A "remarkably versatile" (Chicago Tribune) collaborator, her compositions take centre stage in her new Quartet. She was cited Chicagoan jazz musician of 2015 while her Thirsty Ear debut album received universal rave reviews. No stranger to Vancouver, most recently she’s successfully led our TD High School Jazz Intensive. This year it’s her turn in the spotlight! With Mary Halvorson guitar, Jason Roebke bass, and Tomas Fujiwara drums.
