Every year, a variety of teams from across the province travel to participate in a season-ending adapted tournament in the designated host city. This year, Canucks Autism Network is hosting its second hockey tournament from March 27-28, 2020 at Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex.
A total of 12 teams from across BC will be participating, with players ranging in age (8-34) and disabilities, but united by their shared passion for hockey. In order to ensure that everyone has a positive experience, opposing coaches talk in advance of each game to strategize and match lines so that all players have a safe experience with an appropriate level of challenge.
To accommodate sensory sensitivities, a whistle replaces the loud buzzer for goals and line changes are signaled with a whistle and verbal countdown.
The day begins opening ceremonies in the morning, a BBQ lunch and an awards presentation in the afternoon. Games take place throughout the day.
