Vancouver, Carnegie Community Centre
One of the oldest buildings in the program, the Carnegie Community Centre was built in 1903 as the first public library in Vancouver. This building has been home to many important cultural institutions over the years. Today, the community centre is known as the living room of the Downtown Eastside and is a hub of social, cultural, educational and recreational programs, as well as homeless outreach. There will be two limited capacity tours offered at 10 am and 12 pm offered through pre-registration only. If you didn’t get a spot on the tour, you can still see historic photos on display on the third floor and visit the library.
