The Vancouver Goalball Club is excited to host the 5th annual Vancouver Goalball Grand Slam tournament from March 13-15, 2020, with both a Men’s and Women’s division. Goalball is a Paralympic team sport designed for athletes who are blind or visually impaired. Using their hands only, the goal is for players to throw the ball into the opposing team’s net across a volleyball-sized court. Players track the ball, which makes a bell sound, though noise and vibration. This year’s Goalball Grand Slam will host male and female athletes from the USA, Canada and Israel who are preparing for the Paralympic qualifiers.
Tournament Commencement & Finals:
Competition will start on Friday, March 13 at 12:00, and the finals will take place on Sunday, March 15 with the banquet & awards/medal ceremony immediately following.
About Vancouver Goalball Club:
Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for blind and visually impaired athletes. Goalball athletes compete in teams and try to throw a ball that has bells inside it into the opponents goal. Teams alternate throwing the ball from one end of the court to the other, using their bodies to block the ball from going in their net. Players use the sound of the bell to track its position and movement. Games consist of two 12-minute halves. Eyeshades are worn by all athletes to allow partially sighted players to compete on an equal playing field with blind players.
