Vancouver, Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre
A building of major historical significance both from an architectural and a social perspective, the Roundhouse was originally a cluster of buildings whose function was to house and service the great steam locomotives of the day. The community centre is unique as it combines both art and recreation, and it is proud to also house Engine 374, the first passenger train to enter Vancouver on May 23, 1887.
Expert tours are planned for this site from 11 am – 2 pm with Graham McGarva of VIA Architecture. Graham was part of a design group in the 90’s that helped the Roundhouse transition from a forgotten building after Expo “86 to the unique community centre we know today.
