This year it’s all about making up for lost time, but expect these “Good Times” in a smaller venue… keeping in full accordance with all current Provincial Health office orders to ensure you, your family and your friends are kept safe each time you visit.
We recommend you wear a mask and maintain social distancing, wherever possible while visiting. And please make use of the many handwash and sanitize stations available for your convenience to help improve your market experience.
History of the Night Market:
Founded in the year 2000 by entrepreneur Raymond Cheung, the Richmond Night Market has grown from modest beginnings since its first location at the Continental Centre on Cambie Road. Richmond Night Market is the largest Night Market in North America and has become an international attraction, attracting over 1 million visitors each year.
Being the first event of its kind in the Lower Mainland, attendance at the Night Market grew year after year since its opening. Drawing more and more visitors, Cheung has relocated to various venues over the years to accommodate the growing crowds.
After a four year hiatus during which Cheung eagerly sought a new location, he secured the location at the corner of Number 3 and Bridgeport Rd.
Richmond Night Market’s return in 2012 was met with overwhelming success, with a venue spanning 18 acres and located centrally near the Bridgeport Canada Line Station and bus service to the Lower Mainland. Since moving to its current location, the Night Market continues to expand its booths and attractions. On top of the stalls and entertainment that are staple to the Night Market, Cheung introduces a new theme each year. Previous themes include Return of the Dragon in 2012, Magical Candyland in 2014, and Pirate in 2015.
In 2016, Richmond Night Market transformed into Magical Dino Park and was home to 18 moving and roaring life size dinosaurs. Visitors were taken on a prehistoric adventure as they were welcomed by our dinosaurs, even posing a selfie with them!
Richmond Night Market hosted a party as big as our country every weekend for a grand celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017. Featuring special performances, an eighty foot fun map of Canada and a massive inflatable birthday cake, the Night Market celebrated the country’s birthday with a bang.
Richmond Night Market continues to be a must visit Summer attraction in the Lower Mainland, offering an amazing variety of street food, merchandise and games. Open every weekend from May to October, you certainly don’t want to miss it!
