As one of the few celebrated festivals devoted to flamenco art outside of Spain, the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival nurtures flamenco’s hybridized roots in Sephardic, Persian, Gypsy and Indian cultures.
Running for over 20 years, VIFF is produced by Flamenco Rosario.
We strive to reflect flamenco’s diverse sociocultural identity through work narratives underlining the form’s universal message of humanistic tolerance.
The element of time passing, a generational component, reaching ahead and remembering is all part of this life. With Familia, even chosen family, there is joy with ash in its teeth, joy as tall as flame. We are orphans to flamenco and we choose it; it chooses us back. Our authentic self and innermost feelings of belonging are revealed and shared. This is family.
