From the ashes of the venerable East Van Soul Club comes the return of... Tthe Boss Takeover! An all-vinyl night of rocksteady and original Reggae! We're back once again at our new home - The Boxcar!
Date/Time: Jun 30 2016, 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Vancouver, The Boxcar barAge: 19+
Cost: Free
It'd been a minute, but last month proved to be a bigger, badder, better Boss Takeover. As always, this night is all about the best of the early years of Jamaican music - Sweet rocksteady, the heavy monster sound of early reggae, even bits of classic early-60s ska here and there, and strictly on that vinyl...because eff everything else. Once again, we've got some monster new secret jams to be unveiled that we know you're gonna be so into.
We'll be bringing the original JA hitsound, the jams of a young nation finding its feet after gaining independence as well as the anthems of her native sons and daughters seeking fame and fortune in the dancehalls of their former colonists and spreading the riddim that would help to define a subculture.
As previous, decks will be manned by Boss Takeover founders Jonny “Orthodox Grammar" Grayston (The Late EVSC, Narrow/Emerald booze slinger), Vancouver's most enthusiastic selecter, YOUNG ROYAL (aka Corey Poluk of The Valuables, The Ballantynes, and lindsaysdiet.com) and now featuring Your Man Flint (aka Mike Flint from The Tranzmitors & The Flintettes).
FREE*!!!
*Free, yes, but there will be a donation jar for Jonny's Aprons For Gloves campaign and it would be super chill if you'd kick down for that.
