If there was ever a man with a mind-boggling life story, it's Erik Lee Preminger, the son of burlesque legend Gypsy Rose Lee and film director, Otto Preminger. Gypsy Rose Lee was a show-business phenomenon.

Starting at the age of five, when she appeared in vaudeville, she went on to become a headliner in burlesque, carnivals, and nightclubs. Over the course of her colourful career, she starred on Broadway, appeared in a number of movies, hosted her own television show, wrote a play, two novels, as well as her memoir, GYPSY, which went on to become one of Broadway's greatest musicals.

Preminger brings her rich story to life by showcasing rare home movies, newsreel, and TV footage, so that audiences will not only get a peek inside Gypsy’s long and varied career, but a sense of the adventures that Erik shared on the road with his much-loved mother. This includes a lively Q&A session after the show...this is sure to be an entertaining evening for all!

About Erik Lee Preminger
Erik Lee Preminger, the son of American burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee and filmmaker Otto Preminger, has been in show business his entire life. He spent his childhood by his mother’s side as she performed her strip-tease/comedy act in nightclubs and theatres all over the world. From the age of eight, he served as her stage manager, dresser and photographer. Erik met his father Otto for the first time at age 22 and worked for him for four years, contributing to the films Skidoo with Jackie Gleason and Groucho Marx, Tell Me That You Love Me Junie Moon with Liza Minnelli, and Such Good Friends with Dyan Cannon.

Erik is the best-selling author of the memoir “Gypsy and Me: At Home and On the Road with Gypsy Rose Lee” (which was later reissued as “My G-String Mother”). From 1986 – 1991 Erik was the entertainment producer on KGO-TV’s live morning talk show AM San Francisco (later Good Morning Bay Area), where his weekly segment of celebrity interviews and movie criticism “Preminger’s Pics” generated more viewer mail than any other segment on the show. He is an Emmy Award-winning television producer and has authored numerous screenplays. Erik’s documentary about his mother has won numerous film festival awards and is the basis for his one-man show. He has performed his show in connection with productions of GYPSY throughout the United States. Erik lives with his wife in Northern California.

About Gypsy Rose Lee
Gypsy Rose Lee, (born Jan. 9, 1914—died Apr. 26, 1970), was a witty and sophisticated entertainer who was one of the first burlesque artists to imbue striptease with grace and style. Lee’s stage-mother manager, Madam Rose, put her daughters Rose (Gypsy) and June on stage at a very young age. Later, without June, Gypsy became the star of Madam Rose’s Dancing Daughters. She made her burlesque debut in Kansas City in 1929. Within two years she was the headliner at Billy Minsky’s Republic Theatre on Broadway. In 1936 Lee appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies.

When New York’s burlesque houses were closed the following year, she went to Hollywood to appear in a series of motion pictures. She starred in The Streets of Paris at the New York World’s Fair (1940), featured in the musical play Star and Garter (1942) and appeared in nightclubs and on television. Her autobiography, Gypsy (1957), was also the basis for the musical play (1959) and motion picture (1962) of the same name.
