THE SPORT OF TAEKWONDO
Beginning with the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Taekwondo was brought into the spotlight of the international stage as athletes from around the world competed for Olympic gold. Athletes compete in three two-minute rounds within an 8m x 8m ring. Athletes wear the Dobok, the traditional white uniform, with protective equipment that is coloured for easy differentiation. Scoring in Taekwondo is awarded by landing different kicks and punches on the opponent’s torso or head.
TAEKWONDO CANADA
The Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee recognize Taekwondo Canada as the National Sport Organization governing the sport of Taekwondo in Canada. As a National Sport Organization, Taekwondo Canada is responsible for organizing and conducting national and international events in the sport of Taekwondo.
