Headlining the festival is multi-time JUNO award winner and member of the Canadian Songwriters and Canadian Country Music Halls of Fame, Buffy Sainte-Marie.

The 2023 Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival will also feature performances by Allison Russell, The Dip, Boy Golden, The Trade-Offs and a to be announced artist from the First Up with RBCXMusic program.

This free event taking place on August 12, 2023 in Deer Lake Park will feature award winning artists along with the return of signature attractions and amenities including the family zone, food trucks and more.

- Buffy Sainte-Marie:
Buffy Sainte-Marie is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, educator, social activist, philanthropist, visual artist She specializes in love songs and music with a political and social-activist focus. She was an important figure in the Greenwich Village and Toronto folk music revivals in the 1960s, and is perhaps best known for her 1964 anti-war anthem “Universal Soldier.” It was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. Sainte-Marie also won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and an Academy Award for co-writing the hit song “Up Where We Belong.” She has received the Polaris Music Prize and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, as well as multiple Juno Awards, Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, lifetime achievement awards and honorary degrees. She has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame.

- Allison Russell:
Allison Russell is an artist, activist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of extraordinary power, talent, and grace. A founding member of the acclaimed groups Our Native Daughters (with Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla and Amythyst Kiah), and Birds of Chicago (with her husband/musical partner JT Nero), the Montreal native has begun to emerge as a potent force among creative circles worldwide.
Allison has been nominated for three GRAMMY awards, multiple Americana UK and US awards including Best International Artist, four Canadian Folk Music Awards, and her new album appeared on the long list of the prestigious Polaris Prize in 2021.

-Boy Golden:
Founder and minister of The Church of Better Daze, he wants to help people seeking to improve on yesterday's themes. His songs, like hymns, are hopeful, fresh and upbeat. Redefining jam band and stoner cultures by turning dead heads into lively brains, Boy Golden wants to unite us all in a hazy dream under one roof.

- The Dip:
The Dip is a pop, rhythm and blues band that was formed in 2013 by jazz music students at the University of Washington in Seattle. The band combines a typical pop instrumentation with a 3-part horn section. They have released three full-length albums as well as two instrumental EPs.

- The Trade-Offs:
The Trade-Offs' iconic brand, is distinguished by the deep brooding voice of Josh Qaumariaq and soulful background of Jeff Maurice set against blues and rock and roll sounds echoing from the depth of the Northern tundra. In a blend of Inuktitut and English lyrics, The Trade-Offs sing the Arctic blues about universal themes of light and darkness and closeness and isolation. While the band is a staple of the Iqaluit music scene, they have played across Canada on big and small stages alike, including mainstage performances at major festivals and at the iconic Cameron House in Toronto.
