Held annually, African Descent Festival (“ADF”) is a leading arts and cultural festival for people of African Descent in Western focuses and one of African Descent major Festival across Canada promoting the arts, culture and heritage of those of African descent in Vancouver, British Columbia and Canada. ADF is positioned internally as one of Canada live music international brand known for presenting one of international African superstars and finest artists around the global. This festival aims to rejuvenate the heritage for the people of African Descent in Vancouver Downtown, British Columbia and Canada. The festival aims to create a platform for contemporary African Descent-Canadian art and culture within Greater Vancouver to showcase and share their cultural heritage for the people of African Descent.Previous years it was at Thornton Park
The festival will feature international headliners Grammy-nominated singer Eddy Kenzo, and global internet sensation the Ghetto Kids a dance troupe of children from the streets of Kampala, Uganda. The Ghetto Kids reached international stardom earlier this year after receiving the first coveted “golden buzzer” on UK TV show Britain’s Got Talent and dancing their way to the finals.
Other performers include African and Africa-inspired Vancouver-based musicians Mazacote, Samba Fusion, Kara-Kata Afrobeat, and The Boom Booms. Enjoy lively dance and movement performances from Kenge Kenge Orutu System, Ache Brasil, AfroCity Music, Axé Capoeira, Annet Nandujja, B-Kenyan, Mivule Band and Leo D.E Johnson.
The 2023 festival also features live painting by Jace Junggyu Kim, along with fashion shows by Cenchini and Africstyle Fashion. DJs on site throughout the weekend include Okey Osman, Real West, Zato, Don Mericorn, and Sanchez Cuba. The festival is hosted by MC Douglas Lwanga.
