Choreography William Forsythe
William Forsythe’s astonishing Enemy in the Figure returns to our stage. First shared with Ballet BC audiences in 2018, the work is a dark and thrilling poem about vision and perception, form and chaos, making use of a ticking, brooding score by frequent collaborator Thom Willems. Light—integral to the choreography—explodes and contracts the space, the dancers bursting out of darkness like eruptions from the unconscious. A non-narrative of mystery and urgency, isolation and connection, the mechanical and the human: dance as a medium for infinite possibilities.
World Premiere: Little Star
Choreography Stephen Shropshire
Miami-born, Netherlands-based choreographer, curator, and dance researcher Stephen Shropshire shares an anticipated debut work for Ballet BC audiences. The former Artistic Director of Noord Nederlandse Dans and current artistic coordinator of the Nederlandse Dansdagen dansMusem, Shropshire is well known for exploring the complexities of human experience in a distinctively abstract and unornamented choreographic style.
World Premiere: BOLERO X
Choreography Shahar Binyamini
In this new take on Maurice Ravel’s iconic work, choreographer Shahar Binyamini continues to explore the power of repetition and the new meanings that emerge from the connection between the music written in 1928 and the choreography performed today. BOLERO X is a pure celebration of the power of dance. 50 performers on stage seek to express the great natural forces of which we are made—the force that separates us as unique individuals as well as unites us together as a group.
