Discovery Day is free, family fun! Experience mineral exploration and mining and the technology that makes it possible in a hands-on, interactive day of learning, getting kids excited about STEM in BC.
Bring the whole family to experience the science behind mineral exploration in an interactive earth science activity day with hands-on activities for all ages, including:
- Panning for gold with Yukon Dan – a world champion gold panner!
- Drone displays and other mining gadget demonstrations
- Britannia Mine Museum VR technology displays
- Measure mineral wavelengths with a hand-held sensors
- Tour a real remote mineral exploration camp
- Ancient fossils, spectacular minerals and billion-year-old rocks
- ‘Stump the Geologist’ and other hands-on games with geologists and engineers
- Glow-in-the-dark mineral displays and fluorescent rocks
- Activities for younger children, including stickers, colouring books, and more
- Meet mascots Buddy the Miner, Betty the Miner, and the Whitecaps icon, Spike
- Free face painting, balloon twisting, and popcorn and cotton candy!
Activities recommended for ages 4-12 years old.
