D.O.A. Vancouver 2024 Concert

Revered as one of the most iconic and enduring bands in the long history of punk, Vancouver’s D.O.A. will play the legendary Commodore Ballroom on May 11. As an added bonus, supporting the West Coast hardcore pioneers will be Dead Bob, the new project from former NoMeansNo drummer John Wright. Rounding out the bill will be local alt-punk three-piece Wait//Less.

An integral part of America’s fabled first wave of punk rock acts, D.O.A. helped define the genre with seminal records like Something Better Change and Hardcore ’81. Acts who’ve credited singer-guitarist Joe Keithley with changing their lives have ranged from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana to Green Day and the Offspring. As Henry Rollins once famously said of his first time seeing the group, “D.O.A. was the shit you could not fuck with.”

In the decades that have followed Keithley has remained a mainstay of the group, continuing to record, tour, while playing the role of tireless grassroots activist. A new documentary titled Something Better Change, by American director Scott Crawford (Salad Days) will trace the frontman’s journey from punk rock anti-hero to Burnaby city councillor.

The Commodore show—part of a 2024-25 world tour, will see Keithley backed by his bandmates for the past decade: bassist Mike Hodsall and Paddy Duddy on drums.

Dead Bob released its debut album, Life Like, last year, the project seeing Wright returning to music after a decade-long retirement from music. Joining him for live dates have been indie heavyweights Ford Pier and Colin MacRae.
