An evening of lush classical music by Dvořák, Brahms and Enescu with violinist Arnaud Sussmann and Cristian Macelaru conducting the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Date/Time: Oct 1 2016, 8:00 pm to 10:10 pm
Vancouver, Orpheum Theatre
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Musically Speaking series presents: Winner of the 2014 Solti Conducting Award, Romanian conductor Cristian Macelaru is one of the rising stars of the classical music world; he will conduct the first symphony of one of Romania’s most important artists, as well as the towering Brahms Violin Concerto, performed by Avery Fisher Career Grant-winner Arnaud Sussmann in his VSO debut.
The Musically Speaking series takes the mystery out of the music, and makes you feel at home enjoying the same quality of classical composers and guest artists as you would find in Masterworks. Conductors take you inside the music with informative, fascinating, sometimes surprising— and always entertaining— commentary from the podium about the composers and their music. Video screens on either side of the stage take you closer to the extraordinary musicians with close-ups of all the action.
