Freeman Young - Local rapper Baby David has released his debut album Marvelous which has surely caught our attention after his feature on RAIEL’s Muse EP. David has a great flow through out the album which is over Boom-bap based beats mostly but the soulful samples give the album great depth.
KIDS - have established themselves on an individual level, all hailing from northern Canadian communities. Meeting in Vancouver, the trio united forming a team of unique personalities that shine on a collaborative effort. They’ve toured across Canada with Masta Ace and independently as well as opening for a plethora of Major acts that have come through Vancouver. They released their debut mixtape titled “Summer School” in the Summer of 2012 and have several solo projects already released and many more in the works.
KIDS strive to express themselves honestly through quality music. The essence is to present organic sounds with new perspectives. With invigorating live performances, these fellas enlighten listeners with spoken word and flavourful beats. These guys are prolific; these guys are evolutionary. They are Kinetic Intelligence Developing Soul.
Maka -the former co-founder of hip-hop group Okay City, has put in more than just work. After a successful 3 years of extensive touring as a part of Okay City, with such acts as Hilltop Hoods (AUS), Sweatshop Union (CAN), Mac Miller (US) and opening alongside such talent as Talib Kewli, Planet Asia, Micky Avalon, etc... Maka is known for a live show always full of energy, crowd controlling authority and stage diving stunts.
Upon the release of his 2013 album "RudeMan LP" (produced by MD of The Boomsday Alliance), Maka had finally revealed his own unique sound and voice. The album features a fusion of rap and UK-influenced grime/electronica with features from Juno Award Winner Lil'Bit. The music was embraced by both traditional and non-traditional hip-hop markets with a festival tour as well as an Eastern Canadian tour ("Road To Rude Man Tour").
After touring in 2014, Maka began expanding #teamRude and began working on his follow up project, the "Summer Rain EP". Hughse (UK) (Ian Hughes) worked on the full production for this release after being discovered for his unique remix work on "RudeMan LP".
The "Summer Rain EP" was a success as the EP had several songs placed in the UPtv Original Series "Ties That Bind" opening up new markets and listeners.
In the summer of 2015 Maka announced that he had begun work on a new grime-oriented project "Moxie" and that he would be working once again with Hughse (UK). With non-conventional layering and tempos, Maka was flourishing in the new challenges presented by this sub-genre. The album was released in late spring of 2016 and was immediately well-recieved by reviewers drawing comparisons to Wiley, Skepta and other notable grime artists.
