Ones & Zeroes:
Tracing an arc from early 80's new wave and post-punk sounds to the present, Ones&Zeros combine dual male/female vocals with sharp, fuzzed-out guitar riffs that can veer off into folk, country, psychedelic and, sometimes, orchestral territories.
Ones&Zeros takes inspiration from these times to complain and holler about circumstances that are unique to our generation. The band’s sound is no one-trick pony though. It’s not all about setting the amps to 11 and putting the pedal to the metal. Some songs will kick out the jams with slashing, distorted riffs and frenetic drumming to be sure, but others can be stripped bare to their soiled, acoustic undergarments. Yet, whether lurching from light to shade, or from loud to quiet and back to loud again, the band usually takes pains to sneak in a few jabs about where we’re headed in these turbulent times.
The band is currently playing shows in Vancouver and was recently invited by The Vancouver Sun newspaper to perform a totally unplugged, acoustic version of one of the songs from The City Don't Care EP. That was the first time that this "rock" band has ever played without amps and mics! We felt a bit naked, but it was fun and we're grateful to The Vancouver Sun for the experience.
Rocket to Venus:
After receiving the answer ‘42’ in an intergalactic quest for the meaning of life, we boarded a rocket from Venus and headed to Earth… 8 years ago
Over the years, in an Earthen town called ‘Vancouver’, our crew searched for and assembled the instruments needed to fully study and comprehend the meaning of life: A super computer (an iPhone); a pure unedited social interaction machine (a Facebook account); and various subliminal and subconscious communication devices (musical instruments).
7 years later a momentous groundbreaking eureka moment fell upon us. In a chance accident, much like how the potato chip was born, several of our crew members, while playing with our subliminal and subconscious communication devices, discovered that when played together they created a wondrous wall of sound. This sound made many Earth people move oddly and wail. We had to act fast… we knew we were onto something!
We quickly formed what is called a “Band” and began to study the effects of our “music”. We realized that the earthlings were actually “dancing” and “singing”. They described our music as:
“An Alternative Rock vibe with crunchy soundscape guitar, melodic and sometimes haunting vocals, punchy rhythmic basslines, and drums that build a foundation from which to blast off from, Rocket to Venus needs to heard to be understood.”
Is this the meaning of life? We must continue our study.
