SongRise Improv Choir is a joyful experience of spontaneous singing. There are no songs to learn – all the music is improvised. Laurel Murphy is your guide, leading the group in vocal grooves, rhythms and harmonies— your voice is the instrument! We stand in a circle, feel the rhythm in our bodies, stepping in time and singing layered patterns with chant-like repetition.
The style can go from jazz to blues to world, depending on the inspiration of the moment. There will also be vocal warmups and guided group explorations. You'll be amazed by what we create together!
This an adult choir 16+ open to all singers, beginner to professional, who want to try something different, connect with others and have fun. A basic sense of rhythm and pitch is recommended. Bring drinking water. Preregistration required.
If you don't want to wait til the Free October 7th event, you are welcome to sign up for any of the regular paid sessions that run Tuesdays starting September 9th: https://www.laurelmurphy.com/songrise.
**This event will be filmed to hopefully gather some clips and photos to promote the choir (which we dearly need!) Attending the event means you agree to be included in this if we happen to get some good footage. Please email us with any questions or concerns!
