Don’t miss a night packed with the music of Frank Zappa brought to you by Vancouver’s three premiere Zappa tribute bands: Zappostrophe, UnZappologetic and Let’s Make the Water Turn Black. Catch three full sets of FZ classics and deep cuts, featuring all sorts of Halloween madness (including the legendary dance contest), performed by some of Vancouver’s most talented and in-demand musicians.
Zappostrophe:
Zappostrophe’ is a Vancouver-based 8-piece band, playing favourites and lesser-known works from Frank Zappa’s eclectic recordings. We are all professional musicians with an eclectic mix of backgrounds and training – one thing we have in common is a love for the challenge of recreating (and re-imagining) Frank’s music.
UnZappologetic:
Led by guitarists Daniel Deorksen and Thomas Hoeller, UnZappologetic has made a name for itself with it’s repeated sold our Halloween shows at Tyrant Studios. The 9-piece ensemble also boasts somme of the top rhythm section, vocal and brass talent that Vancouver’s jazz, rock and avant-garde communities have to offer.
Let’s Make the Water Turn Black:
A new sextet to tackle some of the prolific and idiosyncratic 20th-century composer’s most beloved hits (and, well, anti-hits). The bewitching and bewildering bedlam will be brought by Tony Wilson (guitar), alongside sought-after Vancouver musicians John Korsrud (trumpet), Daniel Deorksen (guitar and vocals), Robin Layne (marimba), Russell Sholberg (bass), and Kenton Loewen (drums). The group recently sold out their performances at the No Horses Festival on Hornby Island and the 2025 Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
