Featuring seven outstanding dancers from Vancouver and Manila, Tolentino’s quest in this new dance is to recall and trace transcendent principle of the body’s relation to indigenous traditional arts.
In two contrasting works of choreography; A fabric called “Malong” and “Mudras” ancient hand gesture becomes the source of inspirations allowing Tolentino to look back and pay homage to his Asian indigenous roots.
The dancers become the canvass to evoke traditional practices still relevant and exist, giving light to the shadow of the past, memory in the body and lineage of identity. Using Mudras - an ancient hand gestures that holds sacred and medicinal effect on the body and Malong - a Filipino indigenous fabric used in daily life, these languages of traditional arts awaken genetic memory.
The seven dancers in two contrasting dance pieces exposes the body to attain and reach the expression of the physical, metaphysical and the cosmic.
In Collected Traces and Still Here tradition becomes a dynamic continuation an offering to transport Tolentino’s new visionary creation to reveal the relevance of ancient heritage and ancestral.
