Hear Ralph Heading share about his repurposed junk creations created using found objects

A maker of contraptions, local artist Ralph Heading uses the most miniscule of found objects to create mobiles of boats, planes, spaceships, and even turtles. On Thursday, October 6, 2016, as part of the SAGA Thursday Artist Talk series at the Surrey Art Gallery, join Heading as he shares his repurposed junk creations and the stories and travels that inspired them.
Heading says his mobiles “are influenced by the history of travel and the great era of steam. Both the fascination of motion with the imperfections of life and the challenge of depicting moving objects capture my imagination and sense of wonder.” The artist uses everyday materials that are lying around and is a frequent visitor to dollar stores that provide him with cheap LED bulbs that he embeds in the sculptures. At night, the objects take on a spectral appearance.
Ralph Heading is a retired carpenter who lives in Boundary Bay.
There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk. The event concludes by 9pm. Refreshments are provided. This event is presented by the Surrey Art Gallery Association (SAGA) in partnership with the Surrey Art Gallery, and with support from the Arts Council of Surrey.
