Irish-born Canadian Emma Donoghue became a household name internationally with the publication of her seventh novel, Room.

In addition to winning the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize and the Commonwealth Prize, and being shortlisted for the Man Booker and Baileys prizes, it has sold over two million copies and was adapted to the critically acclaimed film of the same name—for which Donoghue also wrote the screenplay. “From the age of 23, I have earned my living as a writer, and have been lucky enough to never have had an ‘honest job’,” she says.
