Liz Howard is this year’s youngest-ever winner of the Canadian Griffin Poetry Prize. Cultural diplomat and director of the International Writing Program in Iowa, Christopher Merrill is a political poet. The female body and female pleasure are at the heart of Pulitzer Prize winner Sharon Olds’ latest collection, Odes. Griffin-shortlisted Soraya Peerbaye’s Tell: poems for a girlhood bears brave witness to the 1997 murder of Reena Virk. And Ireland’s Billy Ramsell beguiles with his award-winning verse performance style. It’s the only poetry-reading event at this year’s Fest, so get your tickets early.
